CNYC/CFU Lodge 1981 “Istria & Kvarner – Long Island”
27th Annual Summer Picnic

Centerport, Long Island, NY | August 2, 2015

Sunday was a sunny balmy summer day and Lodge 1981/Croatian New Yorker Club had just perfect weather for their 27th annual picnic at Centerport Beach on Long Island’s North Shore. It was a great day for swimming, playing buce (bocce) catching up with old and new friends, and just being outside enjoying the day. The Belanich brothers from Ilovik entertained everyone with the finest of Kvarner island music to listen and dance to. The food is always a great drawing card for the picnic goers and included this year: cevapcici, raznjici, skoljke, roast chicken, sauerkraut and kobasi dalmatinski nacin, blitva & krumpiri, local farm picked corn on the cob (175 ears were eaten!), garden fresh salads, hot dogs, hamburgers, and homemade pastries: orahnjaca, buzije, stolen, makanjaca, and pogaca.

The Lodge 1981/Croatian New Yorker Club Picnic takes a tremendous amount of work to organize and put on, but always has a great turn out. Our Lodge has only 14 members, but over 120 people came to our picnic. It is a true shame that because of the loss of CFU licensing in New York State we have not been able to enroll any new CFU members out of those 120 people that came to the picnic. A point of discussion amongst the picnic attendees this year was to make a recommendation to the CFU administration to consider developing some form of limited associate memberships to the CFU that falls outside the insurance/annuity selling licensure exclusion. This could be a paid dues membership that brings new members into the organization so that they could benefit from the CFU’s great social, cultural, and sports activities. Something to consider in September at the Convention in Baltimore.
